The Delmar Unity Placemaking Committee poses with one of the murals and some of the artists at the installation during the Delmar Main Street Juneteenth celebration, 2023
My work in community started with my interest in public art and grew from there. In St. Louis, I am actively involved with Delmar Main Street, an organization that uses the Main Street America "Four Points" approach to restore economic vitality to an area that became known as the "Delmar Divide" for the stark ways in which it demarcates historic systemic racial segregation, and attendant statistics in life expectancy, home value, household income, and educational achievement. Of course that's not the whole story--there are many wonderful things happening in North St. Louis as well as directly on Delmar Boulevard--sign up on the website or check out our Facebook page to learn more about them!
Delmar Unity Project
Installed June 2023
5644 Delmar Boulevard, St. Louis, MO
As part of the Art Subcommittee for Delmar Main Street, I helped organize the call and select the final 7 artists for this mural project, installed on a beautiful, historic, and currently vacant building on Delmar Blvd in St. Louis.
Oklahoma Art Crawl
June 2020 and October 2021
Organized with OVAC across the state of Oklahoma
The pandemic shut down art fairs, galleries, and museums, depriving many Oklahoma artists of the means to exhibit and sell their art. Inspired by a couple of news stories I read about outdoor art exhibitions, I contacted the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition with an idea for an exhibition in Oklahoma City, and they went BIG organized one across the whole state. The result was a weekend event comprising over 200 artists who exhibited in parks, garages, sidewalks and porches. When the pandemic was still raging the following year, the event was reprised, in the slightly cooler October weather.
