Convergence: Indigenous Exchange and Encounter

This exhibition considered St. Louis from in its historic role as a locus of gathering and trade, and featured contemporary Indigneous printmakers. Organized with Indigenous curators heather ahtone (Chickasaw Nation) and Marwin Begaye (Navaho Nation).

Jen Lewin's interactive installation turned out to be an excellent and safe way to visitors to experience "Art in a New Light" when the pandemic hit during the opening of Oklahoma Contemporary's new building.

Jeffrey Gibson: Speak to Me

Speak to Me had at its conceptual center a film that Jeffrey produced at the Denver Art Museum about encounters between Native Americans and the Native objects stored in non-Native-led Museums. The theme was explored through many other media, including recent work in ceramics and of course his large scale beaded works.
Melvin Edwards: In Oklahoma

Melvin Edwards used his time in Oklahoma as a residency, experimenting with old ideas that had resurfaced during his recent preparations for a retrospective, and developing new works that emerged from the local Oklahoma City scrapyards.
